Japan’s SoftBank Group Corp., alongside U.S. technology leaders OpenAI and Oracle Corp., has announced a monumental joint investment of $500 billion over the next four years to develop advanced artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the United States.
Speaking at a press conference, former President Donald Trump, flanked by the three companies’ executives, including SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, emphasized the urgency of advancing the nation’s AI capabilities to remain competitive on the global stage. “China is a competitor,” Trump stated, stressing the strategic importance of the project in securing the U.S.’s technological leadership.
In his remarks, Trump pledged federal support for the initiative, vowing to provide “a lot of electricity” through emergency declarations to power the colossal data centers and manufacturing facilities that will be established by the partnership. “This is the beginning of our golden age,” he declared, echoing sentiments from his recent inaugural address where he proclaimed, “The golden age of America begins right now.”
Masayoshi Son, set to lead the newly formed joint entity, The Stargate Project, shared his enthusiasm, calling it a pivotal moment in technological history. SoftBank will primarily finance the venture, while OpenAI and Oracle will bring their technical expertise to the table.
The Stargate Project has already commenced operations in Texas with an initial investment of $100 billion. SoftBank has confirmed that additional sites across the U.S. are under evaluation for future expansion. This historic partnership underscores the growing significance of AI infrastructure in shaping the future of the global economy.
